Parmesan and Garlic Linguine Pasta is super easy, fast and SO flavorful! The easiest dinner to make on any weeknight. This is sure to be one of your new favorite linguine recipes!

Parmesan and Garlic Linguine

Here is a ridiculously easy dinner recipe that literally only takes 15 minutes: Parmesan & Garlic Linguine. A lighter, creamy, garlicky, cheesy pasta that is made in one pot and it so versatile. It is heaven on a plate.

How to make Linguine Pasta

  1. Bring a large pot of water to boil and cook the linguine until al dente.
  2. Save some of the cooking liquid and drain.
  3. Place the pasta back into the pot and toss with butter, cream, cheese, garlic, salt, and pepper. As the butter and cheese start to melt, it’ll create a sauce. Add in cooking liquid to thin out the sauce as needed.
  4. Taste, adjust seasonings and serve. Check out my recommended side dishes for this recipe below!

The best way to ensure your linguine is as delicious as possible is to use real Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Not the pre-grated parmesan cheese. When you’re at the store, you’ll want to look for a block of parmesan cheese that has the name printed right on the rind. That is the best way to know you have the real stuff. It’s a little more pricey but well worth it in taste.

Alone this tastes fabulous, but for a more well-rounded meal, add in some vegetables or meat. Some of my readers have tried adding steamed broccoli, grilled chicken, peas and even shrimp. YUM! You can also try some of these tasty sides that go SUPER well with this recipe.

Parmesan & Garlic Linguine

Parmesan and Garlic Linguine Pasta is super easy, fast and SO flavorful! This is sure to be one of your new favorite linguine recipes!
servings 4 servings
Total Time 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound linguine pasta
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 clove garlic finely minced {I used a microplane}
  • lots of salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup reserved cooking liquid from pasta
  • 3/4 cup freshly grated parmigianno reggiano use the real stuff!
  • fresh parsley for garnish {optional}

Instructions

  • Bring large pot of water up to boil. Sprinkle in a generous amount of salt and stir in pasta. Cook linguine until al dente and drain, reserving 1/2 cup cooking liquid.
  • Place linguine back into hot pot and stir in butter, cream, garlic, salt, pepper and cheese until butter and cheese start to melt and create a sauce. Pour in some pasta water to get the sauce to the consistency you want. {I only used about 3 tablespoons.}
  • Taste and adjust seasonings accordingly. Pour onto serving platter and top with fresh parsley and more grated cheese.

Notes

-I used a microplane for grating the garlic and the parmesan cheese right into the pot. If you are using pre-grated store bought parmesan cheese, I'd recommend using about 1/2 cup.
-This recipe only gives only a hint of garlic. Adjust the garlic level to how you like!

    I never have heavy cream in the house, is there a substitute? Is it legal to use 2% milk or is that just not creamy/thick enough? I have kids so I always have milk.

    I LOVE this recipe. I’ve made it a couples, and added chicken the last time. Shrimp will be my next one. Pasta & garlic & creamy are my weaknesses. NOM NOM NOM.

    Dear Lauren: This was a great recipe. I run an educational platform for kids, teaching them about the world through cooking. I was wondering if you would like to be one of our featured bloggers. (We are also making an application). Check out our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/chefkoochooloo

    Seriously the best Alfredo recipe I’ve tried. Kids LOVED it. Added broccoli during the pasta boil and sliced chicken with the butter, cheese, cream additions. Simply marvelous. Thank you for sharing!

    I made this pasta tonight with some chicken and it turned out so yummy!! Thanks for the idea I had no idea what dinner would be and my boyfriend loves it too! I just forgot to save some of the water from the pasta but added more cream to make it thicker. So tasty! Thanks!! 🙂

    I have made this several times and there are never leftovers….super quick and yummy!! I also make it with parmesan crusted chicken cut up and mixed in or on the side….delish! 🙂

  17. Julana

    I would want to add some chicken or shrimp to this… it it saucy enough? If not, how can I make it saucier??? Looks delish just the way it is but my husband would require some sort of meat….

    1. Lauren

      I say add in more cream, cheese, s & p…that should do it! 🙂 Just add it in bit by bit until the sauce is as saucy as you want it!

      I just made this dish and I LOVE it but for that amount of pasta, I definitely needed to add a lot more of the cheese, cream and garlic (more than double what was called for). I also pan-roasted some cherry tomatoes with olive oil, garlic salt, pepper and oregano and mixed those in as well. I plan on using this recipe as a base point for more creamy pasta dishes in the future!
