Lauren and Eddie
Poor sick Eddie boy, about to fall asleep on his mama.

We were getting back into the groove of things and then were hit with some colds!

Here’s what happened this past week:

This week brought the strangest weather. Like consistently grey clouds with mist falling all the live long day. Not rain. Mist. We weren’t sure it if was going to start pouring or stop and become sunny. It definitely prevented us from going out and actually doing fun things because we just weren’t sure one way or another. I’ve never experienced anything like it. Weather, you strange.

I’ve been finding pockets of time here and there to organize and go through Brooke’s baby pictures to finally put together her baby book. Yes, I know she’s 9. Blake and Eddie’s were easy to put together because I had all the edited and cute photos I could need (because they were posted to the blog.) Since I started the blog after Brooke was born, there were no such photos. So I need to dig through my archives, find the photos, edit said photos, and upload them over to chatbooks. It’s a PROCESS, but will be worth it once I have them all together. Also, she was so stinking cute. Kind of still is, besides that pre-teen attitude that shows up here and there.

I didn’t have any training sessions at the gym (or really made any effort to make it over to the gym at all) because I caught Gordon’s cold. And actually, all of us have had this lingering cold. I’m starting to feel better now, but nasal drip and killer headaches can really put a damper on things. I got it the worst out of everyone, but the Tylenol cold day and night time liquid gels worked amazingly well! I don’t know if they reformulated their medicine, but man it was miraculous.

Speaking of the gym, I have been slowly seeing muscles peek through my skin, especially in my legs. It’s no secret that my lower half of my body is just one big trouble area I haven’t had success with shaping and toning. But Gordon noticed that the shape of my legs are changing this week! Lifting weights is working, ya’ll! If I had all the money in the world, I would keep seeing my trainer forever and ever. But alas, I have to send my kids through college. But, after my sessions are finished, I’m going to keep at it. I’m also still keeping up with my protein intake (protein with every meal and snack; 80+ grams every day) and slowly increasing my water. Oh how I dislike drinking water! But, I know the protein supports the muscle development and the water helps flush out the fat, so I’ll keep at it. Eventually, I will do a post about this. Eventually.

You can see Brooke’s hair is a little damp from all that mist. Blake doesn’t want to smile for a picture when he sees his friends running around behind us.

Brooke and Blake did a fun run this Saturday in the weird mist! It was just half a mile loop for kids 2-10. Blake came in third (whaaaaat?!) and Brooke stopped to walk with a 2 year old and hold her hand while they walked. Before we know it, Brooke will be 12 and she will be babysitting. Gulp.

Sunday we had a little brunch in the park with some friends, also in the mist. I made these and they went over swimmingly. I didn’t have any maple syrup, so I browned the butter before I made the simple icing from that recipe. It tastes really similar to maple, so it worked out great. Also, I forgot how good browned butter was. If you need a little reminder, this recipe is AMAZING.

This past week, Gordon made the switch over to working a regular 9-5 job. It has been so amazing! He’s home for dinner, for bedtime and even here for the weekend too! I feel so spoiled, but happy to have this as our new normal. It won’t last forever, but I’ll take it for as long as I can get it!

My kids have random times off of school in February and April, so we booked a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. Eddie will be three in January which means he can go to the kids club on the ship with Brooke and Blake…which means Mommy and Daddy can have a vacation too. WE ARE SO EXCITED. So that’s in February. I’m still looking for a fun place to go during their break in April that we could drive to. Thoughts?

Here’s what is coming up this week:

Hopefully a date or two for Gordon and me!

Hopefully some sunny weather.

Family photos on Saturday 🙂 So excited for these.

I have a doctor’s appointment this week. I thought it was last week, but I’m a hot mess and don’t pay attention to actual dates on the calendar. It’s this Thursday.

We’ve had that same gray misty weather here too. Its like can the sun come back out please!! Plus its going to be 80 degrees today, are we sure it’s October in the Northeast? Glad to hear you are starting to feel better, cold aren’t the worst but sure know how to ruin a day. Umm how cute it baby Brooke, I get the pre-teen attitude, I am dealing with actual teenagers and miss the pre teen tude SO much. Hello, you are not the center of the universe. LOL. I am not a fan of the February & April vacays. Can’t we just have 1 in March instead? That being said YAY for Eddie being able to do the kids club, even though you know he’ll pretend not to know his brother & sister in favor of Mickey or Pluto 🙂

Drive to Washington D.C. and tour the Smithsonian, see The Capitol and White House. A trip to Boston is also fun with a visit to The Aquarium and walking The Freedom Trail. There are Grayline Tours out of Boston that go into New Hampshire and Maine too. It’s an all day tour, but a lot of history and fun! A trip to Philly is also fun seeing Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Might be a bit chilly in April but a trip to Niagara Falls and a ride on Maid of the Mist.
